Ann, Please Put Your Mitt Away, The Game's Over
Have you seen Ann Coulter lately. she looks like I've never seen her - frazzled and frantic, and her voice seems to have risen several octaves.
As John McCain closes in on the Republican nomination and polls say he's the only one who's competitive with Clinton and Obama, the most prominent conservative to actively oppose the Senator is becoming more and more strident.
Today, Ann said she'd vote for Hillary before she'd vote for McCain. That's not the sort of comment one can backtrack on very easily, and it's as outrageous as it is impractical.
We understand, Ann, that you really hate McCain, but there are far more important issues than the ones you and other conservatives cite in denouncing him, and even if they were equally as important as security and spending, why haven't you been demanding that the President get tough on immigration and spending?
What we're now seeing is a prime example of why I say I don't like conservatives much better than Democrats. McCain is not an ideal candidate. He's just the best of those who've run. I know you think Romney is far better, Ann, but he's had plenty of time to demonstrate that... and he hasn't.
So I hope you read that column in the Wall Street Journal today. If you had already, you wouldn't have said what you did about voting for Hillary. Either that or you're blinded by hate and thus merely typical of many conservatives.
McCain is The Man. He's the only choice for Republicans and the country, and if you were not to support him, you would do your country a disservice for which I would never forgive you if it came to pas that McCain lost and Hillary won.
By the way, would you vote for Obama over McCain?
John McCain is a known entity. You can predict where he'll be unpredictable. Romney is an unknown entity, one in which it's impossible to predict where he will fail you. Or do you think he won't?
If so, did you think Bush wouldn't either? Because I don't know about you, but I expected George Bush to become more conservative, not less, once he took office if for no other reason than simply because he'd be grateful for the support conservatives had shown him.
So I'd advise you to be very careful, Ann. You've already turned me off, and it's time to prove you're not a blind ideologue - something I'd never thought you were. if you can't find a reason to endorse McCain, then at least take a cue from Al Sharpton's suggestion for Bill Clinton and shut up.
Because if you continue, you're not going to bury John McCain, you'll only be marginalizing yourself, and I'd hate to see that happen. You've taken your best shot, you lost, move on... before you start to sound like that group of the same name.

I'd ask Ann who she would rather have making judicial appointments Hillary Clinton or John McCain? I'd like to clone Justice Thomas and pack the Supreme Court. I have no reason to trust anyone who runs for public office.
The woman is clearly deranged. The next time she appears, I expect to see her with hair all frizzed and carrying a half empty bottle of Jack Daniels.

Once again, we agree. Threatening to vote for Hillary is not going to do the conservative cause any favours at all. Bizarre behaviour indeed. You'd almost think she was a liberal. You don't think she's come over from the dark side, do you...
McCain seems to contemptuously disregard any need for talking to people like me. He needs to do a better job of reassuring the conservative base and spend less time trying to win over independents and hawkish Democrats.
I'm open to being convinced that McCain will be a good president, but when I see a man whose positions line up with Clinton's or with Kennedy's I start to wonder just how well he'd do with those same indies and dems he's courting...why vote for an old white guy when you can get the same policies from a "historic first" like Hillary or Obama? And of course his support for the war won't help him without his base, and it's not enough to get me to support him.
My wife and I were talking last night, and we agreed that it doesn't matter to us who's President - we won't be affected in the least, assuming no terrorist attacks on Phoenix. We don't care about judges, or even taxes because we've perfectly situated - if they help the little guy, we win, if they help the big guy, we win, and we're pretty much inflation proof since we don't buy anything or use much energy.
I say that because you'll have to live with the consequences of a Dem Presidency more than we will. Even if there's universal healthcare, it won't affect us much.
The trouble is, "conservatives" aren't demanding the same of Romney that they are of McCain. Did you read that column? If so, what more convincing do you need? McCain is the best Republicans have. To feel that way about Romney, you have to impute qualities and track records he hasn't shown.
And no one should be criticizing McCain if (s)he hasn't doubled that amount of criticism on Bush first. He eagerly signed everything and wanted more. But I don't care. what "conservatives" do. I heard one idiotic woman complaining to Hannity yesterday that Huckabee is a good man and he hasn't been heard. Die. No matter what happens, I'll enjoy the angst.

Lot's of people on the right don't like Ann, but I actually thought what you said: has she been a liberal sleeper cell all this time? For someone in her position to say that is borderline unforgivable, but because she's given to hyperbole, it could be her last best effort to show how seriously she's opposed to McCain. Now if she actually carries on after McCain has nailed the nomination down, my love affair with Ann is over. I won't tolerate irrational people no matter what side they're on.

I agree - not that far off, but it's the way she says it that isn't "classic Ann." She's usually hilarius 9at least to me), but now she's just desperate and annoying. But it's not what she's said, it's what she does that matters from here. She's certainly made her case. If she loses, time to suck it up...

Stating a preference for "dealing with" a Hillary Presidency is subtly different then being willing to contribute to such a bad situation.
I don't think I could hold my own tight enough to vote for either Hillary or Obama but I certainly worry about how bad things could be under McCain. I guess the deciding factor for me is a prediction I made to my wife at dinner. If either Hillary or Obama is President, I truly believe that we will be attacked by terrorists on a scale to dwarf 9/11. I mean, if you were a terrorist, wouldn't you take advantage of the four year window?
To my knowledge, Ann hasn't said she'd vote for Hillary, but she has said she'd support Hillary before she'd support McCain - on Hannity & The Other Guy.
Now I realize that's a big difference, and that she was being somewhat facetious, but the fact is, it's irresponsible of Coulter to minimize the damage Hillary or Obama could do, along the lines you've indicated and plenty more, and it's also irresponsible to imply that McCain could be worse than Bush.
