Conservative Talker Finally Makes A Good Point
Rush hasn't done it. Neither has Ann. It was Sean Hannity, of all people (because he's probably my least favorite) who said something today that gave me pause.
It wouldn't have if Rush Limbaugh hadn't laid the groundwork a hour earlier when he said that McCain had told someone at Der Spiegel that he would immediately close Guantanamo and move everyone to Leavenworth and that he'd sign on to restrictions to curb "global warming," both ideas too horrible to contemplate in their own right.
But then Sean Hannity said the following: "If McCain can reach out to the Feingolds and the Kennedys, he can reach out to conservatives."
Whoa. See, I've been listening to McCain and he hasn't altered a single thing he's said that angered conservatives. He's toned it down and he's changed the subject, but he hasn't done anything to show he's heard, understood, and is willing to modify some of his positions. The inference is that he won't.
McCain did say that he understands he needs to solve the border problems FIRST, and he did add the qualifier that India and China had to agree to emissions controls as well, but ti seems clear that he intends to do what he'd planned all along (McCain, Like Bush, isn't one who changes his mind easily... or at all), conservatives be damned.
This is not a surprise because I've thought all along that it would take outside checks to balance McCain, but I don't like being reminded of what it is about the Senator that bothers me, much less hear if from McCain himself.
So I'll be watching closely, and I know some of you will be watching closer still, and that's good, proper and necessary.
I'd rather have Johnny come marching home than into the Presidency if he's going to move hell and high water and take the path less traveled to destroy America.
By the way, Newt Gingrich just told Hannity that maybe conservatives would have been better off it they'd criticized Bush more each time he strayed. Let's see, where have I heard that?
Btw2 - Newt also detailed an excellent plan for McCain to challenge Clint or Obo.

Has anyone ever gotten it?
You know I'm only doing this with you because I feel i can? Of course you should vote for whomever you feel good about... then I can needle you some more later ;)
"Return to sender....return to sender..."
McCain: I'll secure the borders first and (undecipherable)!
Conservative in the audience: I didn't quite hear that last part. Could you speak up a bit?
McCain: I'm not sure I understand the question.
Security begins moving in the general direction of the questioner...
Conservative in the audience (louder voice): Yes...uh, I was wondering what you said after that part about securing the borders?
McCain: Oh, yes, well..<ahem>...I was going to say that...(aide for McCain campaign interrupts while McCain puts his hand over the microphone.)...I was going to say that... once.... the.... borders.... are.... secure.... then... we.... can talk.... about....
McCain never finishes his sentence because security finally reaches the questioner and after a protracted struggle drags him from the building.
There is a moment of silence...
McCain: Any more questions?
Chad, and to think all this would be moot if Bush had had his way as early as 2001.
Hey, I had a look at the new site, and it is very nice. I did have some thioughts which I'll discuss privately someday.
Hardly any politicians have a backbone anymore. All they do is polling to get ahead of the maddening crowd, and then they quietly sell out to lobbyist. So much of the bad legislation is written and inspired by lobbyists who are crafting bills to get an advantage over everyone else.
Zak, have I got some great news for you! Just last night, Barry said he's not going to allow lobbyists to lobby anymore. He didn't say how he was going to do that, but I have hope, and you should too!
He's also going to take all the oil profits until everyone has a decent wage. I admit that accomplishment seems a bit more difficult, but lets you and me hope even harder and maybe add dash of faith...
