Malaysia, Truly Aphasia?
A suspect may be detained indefinitely, without being charged or put on trial.
"But officials insist the law is not intended to strangle internet freedom," the article says.
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak told The Straits Times, "Some people feel that they have crossed the line, in making racist remarks."
Huh?
Jonathan Kent of the BBC has a slightly different perspective; he says the government appears increasingly concerned about the growing online criticism of its record.
Meanwhile, "Raja Petra Kamarudin, the editor of one of Malaysia's most popular political websites, Malaysia Today, turned himself in to... answer allegations that he had mocked Islam and threatened racial harmony."
"I promise I'm going to give them a hell of a tough time," he said.
Oh Joy!?!
The BBC says the government seems keen to send a signal to its online critics that it will only tolerate so much...
And this, remember is "moderate Islam"....

Read the one about our DPM announcing that we're an Islamic state. Guy's clueless....
"Not moderate Islam, just a f**ked up government"
OK, but the king's a great guy, I'm sure?!?!
The King has always been nothing more than a symbol here in Malaysia. All he does is grant pardons (with the PM's advice), declares war (with the PM's advice), has power over matters of Islam in the Federal Territories (which none of the Kings have ever bothered about, you can see how swell Lina Joy's case went), announces the formation of government (with the PM's advice) and even announces a general election (with the PM's advice)
And when I say the PM's advice, it's basically (usually) the PM who states what he wants to do and the King simply accepts it. Sad, but true.
Even better, the executive government grants the King an allowance. So you can see how 'fair' the King can be.
A,
If the king is mainly a symbol, why would anyone need to criticize him in the first place? It would seem that the PM is the guy people would want to scorch, and if I understand the BBC (and who does?), there's no law against that?
He also has the power to sack religious figures, like the insane mufti of one state here who wanted to take all citizens with HIV and isolate them on an island.
Also, he has the power to abolish the moral police, which are so radical and ignorant that they put a group of girls into an air conditioned room at the lowest temperature, telling others to let them freeze in there, for not dressed decent enough for their liking.
And yeah, our PM is probably still celebrating with his new wife to the point of forgetting that he's running a country.
Well, I gotta say, it's interesting - from afar.
But that group of girls thing? That's actually my fantasy!?!
