The Comment Of The Day - Farah
"Bush is, without a doubt, one of the worst presidents of my lifetime – and I've seen some bad ones. The first president I remember – only vaguely – was Dwight D. Eisenhower. I lived through Lyndon Baines Johnson, truly a disaster and the height of corruption. I lived through Richard M. Nixon, need I say more? I lived through Gerald R. Ford, a man who didn't understand Soviet domination of Eastern Europe – at the end of his presidency! I lived through Jimmy Carter – barely. I lived through George W. Bush's father and his flip-flop on a "no new taxes" pledge. I lived through Bill Clinton – and have the scars to prove it. Nevertheless, I have to admit, George W. Bush is right up there near the top of the worst of these men. Presidents need to be judged by their fruit. And Bush's fruit is mostly rotten." - Joseph Farah

I couldn't agree less. With Carter, i admit things looked incredibly bleak, but you felt that someday it would end. And Johnson was only a mass murderer. Bush has set in motion things that may never end, and being that he's a Republican, that makes it that much worse.
And even if this mess does end, Bush has fundamentally changed America for the worse. Granted Jonson did that as well, but that only gave black people more voting rights...!?!
But you did point up one problem which I have been aware of for some time - that it's hard to get people to understand the scope of what Bush has done and failed to do. - speech, immigration, financial, and more...
Bush's problem was the expense of the war on terror & how it affects long-term debt. I grant you that G W Bush is the worst Republican President since Hoover. My dad who wasn't a reader of history or economics blamed Hoover for the depression until the day he died. The only reason that I give W some slack is that he didn't change any trends that were not already in motion. It was G W Bush’s ineptitude to do anything constructive about America’s log term economic weakness that is his down fall. The Republican congress betrayed us more than G W Bush in that they passed all the big spending programs that W wanted and were cowards it the real war- the war against the vote-buying Democratic Left. Since 2001 the Republicans in government have destroyed any credibility that the “Conservatives” had in the public mind. But FDR, Truman, Nixon & Carter only betrayed Western civilization by selling out to the communists.
I see your problem...
Republicans passed what Bush wanted.
And you blame them? it's supposed to work the other way around: bush was the check on hat they were doing, and he failed. There's this thing called the "veto." And in the process HE ruined the credibility of all of them. Granted they were trying there best to do it on their own, but it was Bush and Bush alone who not only brought it all down, but who has ruined the party and conservatives for the foreseeable future - though conservatives seem to love to wallow in the ruins.
That's what I wrote: "The Republican congress betrayed us more than G W Bush in that they passed all the big spending programs that W wanted and were cowards it the real war- the war against the vote-buying Democratic Left."
Also: "..he didn't change any trends that were not already in motion. It was G W Bush’s ineptitude to do anything constructive about America’s log term economic weakness that is his down fall." G W Bush was not a Leader in any dictionary sense of the word. So we agree. ;)
LOL, no, we don't agree. The Congress can pass anything they like. the President has responsibility for letting it be enacted. Can you name the Bush vetoes Congress has overridden?
And as for him going with the flow, that's not quite it either. True, he did go with the flow, but he opened the floodgates. He did what Clinton wouldn't have been able to do, and he has paved the way for Obama to greatly expand it, or as Drudge put it - 600k more federal employees?
You are right about that, but I don't use the president as the boggy man for what's wrong with government. What ever happened to the so-called "Republican Revolution" of 1994? Remember the "Contract With America"? It's dead because the congressional Republicans didn't have the principles to act on the ideas of smaller government. And I find this a bigger problem than either Bush 41 or Bush 43.
