Earlier this week, I encountered one of the Vox community's more prominent idiots-advocats and high priest in the global warming religion who had the audacity to address my standard "hogwash response" response to one of his comments by saying that he believed the market would magically produce "cheaper and greener" forms of energy. He didn't say "magically" though, because he actually believes that if you simply will it, it will happen, no matter that many of the already existing cheaper and greener forms of energy have been hamstrung in their development by members of his own sect, and overlooking the fact that no part of his vision is currently in view.
And did I just say "overlooking?" You have to be aware of something before you can overlook it, and in that sense this self-proclaimed scientist's dream has apparently transported him into an alternate reality with tangerine trees and marmalade skies, and he's perfectly content in the sort of way that old guy was in his belief that Mount St. Helens wouldn't erupt. Meanwhile, back on Earth, not only are the living standards of advanced nations being compromised, but just as third-world countries start to advance a bit, they are seeing costs rise across the board as the price of oil pushes up the cost of just about everything else.
When a person is willing to ignore immediate and avoidable suffering in favor of an intangible goal fueled mainly by his imagination, he's immoral. he's a Castro-in-training, even a future Stalin or a Hitler depending on how far he's willing to ride his vision. So you'll excuse me if I have no patience with his likes. He has no facts, no timetable, and no concern for interim consequences. He's a madman at best and a tyrant in all likelihood. And of course, he sees himself as benevolent as most any tyrant does.
Now I'm a reasonable person. I'm willing to entertain any view that's supported with evidence, and I'm willing to go along with any program that is demonstrably desirable. That means I'm happy to do my part for the environment and in fact, I already do more than most. A bigger fact is that I won't be affected by the harsh realities imposed by skyrocketing energy costs, and I'm thrilled that there might be many fewer vehicles on the road. But my delight stops when people are hurt by artificial restrictions based on faulty 'science,' and they are hurt by pre-boondoggles like "cap and trade" or such absurdities as designating polar bears as endangered species which then opens the door to unimaginable avenues of regulation.
It's time to recognize that warmalarmists aren't just liars with an agenda, they are dangerous, very dangerous, and you are already experiencing the "fruits" of their labors. I recently had an exchange with a fellow elsewhere who wasn't willing to concede that liberals are evil. I argued that the formal designation made no practical difference since even if they held their ideas and beliefs in good faith, and they have the best of intentions, as does the fellow I've been discussing here, the net result is still evil, and as I've said, I doubt you could get Hitler to admit he was evil, so I'll leave it to you to make that determination, I've made mine. But even if you don't see the members of the Church of Global warming as an evil cult, how many of you would like to live by the tenets of any cult?
Well then, this cult is closer to imposing its beliefs on you than any other in history. They literally plan to control the world. They plan to control you. And they don't care about the cost to any one individual, or even a group of them. The end justifies the means. My mindless adversary said as much, he just wasn't lucid enough to understand his own meaning.
But don't take my word for it, I refer you to one of the most rational thinkers of our time who is far more civil and analytical than I am.
Two great commentaries this day, the first deals with how dishonest and disreputable liberals are, and the second deals with how stupid and dangerous Barack Obama is. Unfortunately, being dishonest, disreputable, stupid and dangerous is the left's tradmark course, so, like Scott McClellan, I'm not revealing anything.
And here's at least the best column title of the day: Meet the gaffable Barack Obama:
"Now, people who know Obama have been telling me for months that he is a very likable fellow and very clever. The problem he has, they say, is that things come easily to him. So easily that oftentimes, he simply wings it, expecting his facile mind to get him through. That makes sense. The tendency to wing it is encouraged all the more by Obama's insufferable arrogance."
Mike Baker may not yet be the best columnist going, but he's clearly aiming for the title. He's already got the credentials, what with him being a real former CIA operative (unlike that woman who claimed to be), appearing regularly on Red Eye, he'd immediately impressed me with both his looks and brilliance and, more importantly, his wit. If you haven't seen him, at least you'll get an idea of what I mean from the picture that accompanies his commentary you're about to read which, in itself is important, incisive and downright hilarious at times.
The moment I saw Mr. Baker, I thought two things: first that he's a cut above most people, and second, where has he been before Red Eye discovered him? And I want to add here that Red Eye is performing the service Don Imus used to do, that is, giving exposure to new and talented people, but where Imus was hit-and-miss, what with him often building up liberal morons, Red Eye showcases thinkers and enables them to show us that they are far more - that they are human and funny.
Take Dr. Michael Baden. You should know him as an expert in forensics, but from his many appearances on Red Eye, he's not only increased our understanding of autopsies, he's made us yearn to see one firsthand and regret that we can't assist - but only if Dr. Baden is doing the sawing and commenting in detail as he goes...
But before I get too far off course, I want to say that Mike Baker is rapidly becoming the Dave Barry of non-fiction commentary, and I feel certain you'll agree upon reading his latest take on Barryobama and his Fruit Loops Express. Here's a teaser:
"At a certain point, likely after they spent a minute or two thinking about it, the good folks in the Obama camp decided he should probably adjust his position on meeting with folks such as Ahmadinejad, Syria’s President Bashar Assad, our old pal Castro and my personal favorite, Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. So, demonstrating that their campaign is all about change, they changed their position."
Is it just me or is Barack Obama the quintessential example of "degree creep?" I mean the guy is certainly educationalized, right? So why is he so stupid? And that's the best you can say about him, because if he ain't stupid, he's flat-out crazy. We can't drive our SUVs, eat as much as we want, keep our thermostats at 72, and expect other countries to just say OK, he says? FUB! And have you noticed the halting condescension? Where did the idea come from that Obama is a great orator?
For the record, I don't drive an SUV and never have, and five years ago I said that driving one is un-American because I saw the harm it was doing, not to the environment (I couldn't care less about that), I was referring to the fact that they increase our dependence on oil and on those countries that hate us.
I also never keep my thermostat at 72. For example, it was 105 here yesterday, and I didn't turn the air conditioning on until 11 - in the evening. And the thermostat was set at 83. I say this not to brag or to show how green I am. With me it's all economics. I hate spending money on things that get used up or are inefficient, but I realize that I'm not normal, and I don't expect everyone to be like me or to follow my lead. It's simple really , the less I use, the less dependent I am on others. So if gas goes to ten pucks a gallon, I don't really care. Truth be told, I wish it would - the market should always set the price, and what's it going to take to drill in Alaska, twenty dollar gas?
But for Obama to suggest Americans can't do something because the rest of the world might not like it - that's moronic - to be kind. And Barry doesn't stop there. Now we learn he believes that Iran is a tiny country that represents no threat to us? Only idiots and crazies think that... and Obama does. In fact, Iran is a bigger threat than the Soviet Union ever was. I'm not going to detail why that is because any rational person can see that. But Obama doesn't.
Most recently, he's scaring seniors about Social Security. This is his message of hope? Change? It's nothing more than the Democrats bread and butter. Obama plans dramatic tax increases. Is that what Messiahs do? And lest you think I have a personal interest, forget it, Taxes, even a big jump in them, pose no problem for me personally. But they are rotten for people and prosperity.
If you think Obama represents positive change, you're a fool, and that's your problem. When you try to inflict your foolishness on America, it takes on a whole new dimension. The truth is, if there's a bigger threat to America than Iran, it's Barack Obama. How do clowns like this ever get an audience? Because of fools like you?
Then there's the wife, the church, the pastor, the terrorist, the elitism, the abortion endorsements... Barry Young called Obama's associations as the "Coalition of the Weird." Good but facile, and it minimizes the... uh... omonicity..
Ralph Peters is a guy who not only knows whereof he speaks, and he can put it in words like nobody else as well. Each new column seems better than the last.
Today, he puts the Middle East in proper perspective, and in the process, he conveys a dire warning about an Obama Presidency - without ever mentioning his name. And he doesn't think much of current leadership either. But who does?
OK, I'll admit she was already a monster, but thanks to Mr. Limbaugh, Hillary Clinton now has a human face. She's got pluck. She's persevering. She's an everyman. She's tough. She's a Tonka Everyman. El Rushbo made it all possible.
Remember the olden days when many people thought that Barack Obama was the Messiah? Man, things happen fast in the computer age. Take yesterday for example - "PLEASE," as the Obama camp is saying. Their candidate wasn't expected to do well in West Virginia, but nobody expected a chad-free lynching?! The boy got a quarter of the votes! A quarter of the DEMOCRAT votes! Fifty percent of the people who voted for Clinton said they wouldn't vote for him! Half of the voters think Obama shares Reverend Wright's views! 53% of college grads voted for Clinton! 46% of Clinton voters didn't know what an Obama was!
Here's how bad it is - 63% of West Virginians think a gas tax holiday is a good idea, while half of Obama voters think it's a bad idea - and they're the ones who are right!
Call me crazy, but I bet Democrats think that picture of Dukakis in a tank looks great compared to the box score of yesterday's vote. Well, at least to the Democrats who matter - Dean, Kennedy, Kerry... and Michelle Obama is reportedly so bitter that she's now only proud of the states her husband won. Which reminds me, doesn't Florida and Michigan take on new significance?
Barack Obama still has to be their nominee. He just has to be. Even if the man himself agreed to be Hill's butler.. er... Veep, lots-o-people would be disaffected. And speaking of Veeps, doesn't Hillary now have to be IBM's Vice President? And doesn't absolutely nobody want that, not me, not you, not Hillary - or Obama. make that, especially Obama? Biliary will simply overshadow if not overwhelm him for four years.
That's assuming, of course, that an Obama-Clinton ticket could win... but it's the only Dem combo that has a chance now, it seems. I was the first to say that Clinton-Obama would be the most formidable, but how does that happen?
Obama has been shown himself to be the featherweight some of us knew he was, and there is no running mate other than Hillary who can begin to alter that perception, is there? Without her he's probably fatally flawed. With her, it's four years of hell for everyone except Hill and Bill... and maybe eight!?
Wow, maybe an Obama-Clinton ticket could win after all? Because, I mean, I might vote for them...it's almost worth it to watch the country disintegrate right before our eyes! Never would complete ruination be so fun! I'm sorry to say that I drove through the State once, and I didn't notice, but as it turns out, West Virginia IS almost heaven.
I thought I was going to finally lose it completely this evening when Fox news-scum, Bill O'Reilly, introduced that piece of fabulous filth, Marion Barry, to talk about the media being unfair to the only undertaker ever to run for President, Barack Obama.
If that doesn't bother you, then how about O'Reilly telling America's Mayor that anytime the D.C. Dirtbag felt that he, Billie-O, was being unfair to Obo, that before Made Marion put down his phone after arranging for more blow, he should dial up "The Factor" and they'd put him right on to discuss it.
Still not out of your mind? OK then... just now they were changing pitchers in the ballgame so I flipped over to Fox to see how badly Hilly was beating Barry, and there he was again, Beltway Barry - the now less-bad Barry, but at least, for now, still the more repulsive one.
I couldn't change the channel fast enough - literally. You know how sometimes when you try to punch the numbers really fast, one doesn't take and then you have to wait until the screen clears? And all the accompanying screaming!? Lucky for me my wife's not home. But how long has it taken me to write this? I ask because I'm still upset - still furious that I had to see that. To think they fined CBS for a fleeting glimpse of Janet Jackson's boob, yet Fox can show closeups of an oozing sore like Barry? I'll bet some kids even watch election results, maybe hoping for a peek at Hillary's breast?
You know, I've taken them to task many times for their "fair and balanced" crap. I wanted "fair and accurate." Now I'd settle for "decent."
Today John McCain made his strongest statements yet about his intent to regulate the "global warming" scam.
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. McCain doesn't intend to regulate the scam, he plans to fully participate in it.
The one thing the senator and I agree on about this issue is that it's potentially the most serious one America faces.
Where we disagree is why.
McCain actually thinks that "greenhouse gases" play some role in something.
So do I - I think he's been breathing in too much CO2, for too long.
Consequently, I will not be voting for him.
He's by far the least of three evils.
But he's still very evil.
This is the first time in my adult life that I'm not proud of America.
Over the weekend, I was referred to a "carbon footprint test."
I took it.
Our "footprint" is under four tons - 3.7 to be exact
My wife and I agree we could easily reduce it further.
That makes us better than just about everyone.
If you disagree, you're worse than John McCain
But better than Barack and Hillary.
In all probability.
Now please, go help save energy - burn a cornfield
Let me say again at the outset, I'm no fan of John McCain. I hate his positions on immigration, drilling in Alaska, and the "global warming" scam, to name a few. OK, "hate' is too weak, but it'll have to do since I can't spend a lot of time thinking of something more appropriate when it's not what this entry is about.
What I want to bring to your attention is the segment on today's Special Report with Brit Hume in which a former Hanoi cellmate of Senator McCain went into considerable detail regarding the nature of McCain's heroism, and it was far more extensive and impressive than I'd known - awe-inspiring, I'd say. OK, "awe-inspiring" is too weak, but it will have to do because it can't be described in a word or two.
This is the sort of guy in the sort of situation movies are made of... and one was. I saw it, and as reflective as it was of McCain's character in the face of circumstances I couldn't begin to endure, the film didn't convey the sentiments a fellow prisoner did in a short interview. I urge you to catch a replay.
Does heroism qualify one to be President? No, but it's one indication of temperament, ability to focus, and potential coolness in a crisis. And McCain has a long political and legislative track record which, shows that he's the man for the times. I expect that I won't like a lot of what he does in office, but I also know that he'll be a leader, a strong and capable one - an honest one, and I can't say that about his potential opponents.
