I had argued for years that George Bush is the worst President there will ever be.
Then when Obama came along, I had to admit I was wrong.
But how could I know that from beyond the grave of his Presidency, Bush would reach up and reclaim his ignominious title?
What made Bush so terrible is that he was the quintessential example of the maxim, "All that needs to happen for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."
Now I would vociferously argue against the idea that Bush is one of the good people for the very reason that to see the evil that you and others will be responsible for and still do nothing, makes you, de facto, evil yourself.
But Bush, the person, no longer matters. His failings have already transformed this country, and with the long-rotten Arlen Specter switching parties today, the cap is now completely off the bottle that had contained the damage Bush had done.
Now Bush is actively and directly responsible because he supported Specter for re-election when Specter's conservative Republican challenger would almost certainly have unseated Specter and ended his career.
Now Specter will be front and center as the Democrats pass anything they want - and everything they want. There are no longer any stops, and George Bush made it all possible, not by doing nothing, but by supporting Specter.
As the local talk show lady just said, the worst thing about all this is that the Democrats can pretend to debate for as long as they want. They can appear to be listening to the other side, but in the end, there is no check on what they will do.
And what they will do will be disastrous to conservative positions and the country itself, and much of it, as we see with the New Deal programs and ideology, will never be undone.
This is the new Bush legacy. And most conservatives not only stood by and let it happen, they defended the guy who did them and the country in. Instead of holding Bush accountable when the damage was minimal, they defended his every failure as each built on the last until - we got ourselves an Obama... and now, a 100 (filibuster) proof Obama!
Now, by all means, enjoy your tea parties.
"Bring me any liberal, and I'll show you an aspiring dictator. Bring me the smartest liberal, and I'll show you an idiot." - Guess?
Events in the Somalian Ocean this past week afforded us one of the rarest of opportunities - that of being able to use the words "sniper" and "wonderful" in the same sentence.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the gravest threat America faces is either from its returning war veterans or the Department of Homeland Security.
Tea Party protests over increasing taxes and and reckless spending enabled the mainstream media to finally come out of the closet. No, not by the incessant, childish references to a certain gay activity, but by finally casting aside all pretense and boldly and unabashedly aligning itself with the aims and actions of the political left. Next up: Media Pride Parades?!?
It turns out that it takes green to go green. Apparently for every "green" job created, we lose two and a half regular jobs, not to mention that it costs a fortune to create the green jobs in the first place. This is only a surprise to people whose heads are in the "Brown Zone!"
It turns out that for all the idiosyncrasies of the BloggersBase voting system. at least in Politics, the end result seems to be a pretty accurate reflection of the clarity of the writing there.
Back to the Homeland Security report of "right-wing extremism": can you imagine the reaction if the Department, under George Bush, had issued such a report about people on the left? Now that I mention it, can you imagine such a report ever being issued by the Bush Administration?
And now I need to qualify what I just said. I have long ago stated that I was the biggest Bush-hater around, and I still am. Not only did he violate every conservative principle in existence, but he also made Barack Obama possible. For the record, I started screaming when McCain-Feingold passed and people on the right blamed McCain, conveniently overlooking that Bush signed the bill which he, himself, claimed was unconstitutional.
I heard that a Los Bravos song from the sixties has been updated... "Black is black... I want my economy back..."
Did you hear that with all those tea parties, there was no violence and no property destruction of the sort that's so common with left-wing demonstrations? There's a simple explanation - tea party protesters were simply inexperienced.
Dennis Miller had a great line (inexact quote) "I don't mind helping the helpless, but I have no regard for the clueless... and we're giving too much money to the clueless."
"I'm concerned about the spending, the stimulus and the pork-barrel spending - which began under the previous administration..." Daniel Hannan, referring to The two worst Presidents in history.
You can scream about how terrible Obama is, and you're absolutely right. You can scream that he's a globalist and an ignorant one at that, and you'd be right, You can say that all this is orchestrated, and you're probably right. Where you're wrong is if you defend George Bush even a little bit.
Whether he realized what he was doing (and a good case could be made that he was just that stupid that he didn't) the fact is - THE FACT IS, George Bush is responsible for starting us on this path, and he is equally to blame for wherever it leads.
I wrote a piece about Obama yesterday that's not quite humorous as it stands, so I don't know where it's going to end up, but I have to decide soon. The trouble is, nothing about our current situation is funny, and nothing about the American President is acceptable.
