""I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States." - John McCain on Obama
Mike Baker may not yet be the best columnist going, but he's clearly aiming for the title. He's already got the credentials, what with him being a real former CIA operative (unlike that woman who claimed to be), appearing regularly on Red Eye, he'd immediately impressed me with both his looks and brilliance and, more importantly, his wit. If you haven't seen him, at least you'll get an idea of what I mean from the picture that accompanies his commentary you're about to read which, in itself is important, incisive and downright hilarious at times.
The moment I saw Mr. Baker, I thought two things: first that he's a cut above most people, and second, where has he been before Red Eye discovered him? And I want to add here that Red Eye is performing the service Don Imus used to do, that is, giving exposure to new and talented people, but where Imus was hit-and-miss, what with him often building up liberal morons, Red Eye showcases thinkers and enables them to show us that they are far more - that they are human and funny.
Take Dr. Michael Baden. You should know him as an expert in forensics, but from his many appearances on Red Eye, he's not only increased our understanding of autopsies, he's made us yearn to see one firsthand and regret that we can't assist - but only if Dr. Baden is doing the sawing and commenting in detail as he goes...
But before I get too far off course, I want to say that Mike Baker is rapidly becoming the Dave Barry of non-fiction commentary, and I feel certain you'll agree upon reading his latest take on Barryobama and his Fruit Loops Express. Here's a teaser:
"At a certain point, likely after they spent a minute or two thinking about it, the good folks in the Obama camp decided he should probably adjust his position on meeting with folks such as Ahmadinejad, Syria’s President Bashar Assad, our old pal Castro and my personal favorite, Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. So, demonstrating that their campaign is all about change, they changed their position."
